Cat Ideal Weight Calculation and Table

Cat ideal weight calculation is important to determine your cat's healthy weight. Tabby cat ideal weight, British cat ideal weight and other breeds have different ideal weight ranges. Male and female cats also have different ideal weights.

How to Determine Ideal Weight? (BCS – Body Condition Score)

BCS 5/9 → Cat at ideal weight

Ribs can be felt slightly but not visible. Waistline is visible from the side. Slight hourglass shape when viewed from above.

BCS 6-7/9 → Overweight

Ribs cannot be felt. No waist, belly begins to sag.

BCS 8-9/9 → Obese

Belly is noticeably sagging. Wide appearance when viewed from above.

Tabby Cat Ideal Weight

Tabby cat ideal weight is generally 4-6 kg for male cats and 3.5-5 kg for female cats. Tabby cats are medium-sized cats and this weight range is considered healthy.

British Cat Ideal Weight

British Shorthair cats have a larger and more muscular structure. British male cat ideal weight is 5-8 kg, and female British cat ideal weight is 4-6.5 kg. Weight monitoring is especially important for this breed as they are prone to obesity.

Kitten Ideal Weight

Kitten ideal weight varies by age. 6 month cat ideal weight is generally between 2-3 kg. 1 year cat ideal weight approaches adult weight and can vary between 3-5 kg depending on breed. Regular weight monitoring of kittens is important to track their growth and development.
